We are the therapy dog\u00a0teams\u00a0who work in Boulder County, Colorado at hospitals,\u00a0retirement communities, children&#8217;s libraries, schools\u00a0and special community outreach programs such as the CU events library visits during finals week.\u00a0 A therapy dog team consists of a human handler and their dog who is their household pet.\u00a0 These teams go through intense testing procedures and various enrollment procedures which vary depending on the facility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>How is it done?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">For more information about a specific program, click on a menu item from the main menu above.\u00a0 Each of our program pages have a signup\/application form where you can apply to be a therapy dog team with your dog at that facility.\u00a0\u00a0 All vetted facilities we visit require the teams be tested or registered with a national therapy dog association to assure consistency in behavior and for reliable insurance factors.\u00a0 In general,\u00a0a therapy dog will have the following traits:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8211; A\u00a0dog that is very calm.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> &#8211; A\u00a0dog that is obedient and looks to you for direction.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> &#8211; A\u00a0dog that loves to be petted: i.e., the first person to interact with the dog is as important and receives as much affection as the 10th.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_89\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89\" class=\"wp-image-89 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/theholles.com\/therapydogsbouldercounty\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TildaBCH-2-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Tilda Dog\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theholles.com\/therapydogsbouldercounty\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TildaBCH-2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/theholles.com\/therapydogsbouldercounty\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TildaBCH-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/theholles.com\/therapydogsbouldercounty\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TildaBCH-2.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-89\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tilda Dog<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Dogs should be at least 1 year of age minimum.\u00a0 Handlers must be a minimum of 18 years of age unless accompanied by a parent who is also tested and registered. Successful completion of a formal obedience program, while not required, is highly recommended. Therapy dogs must be able to walk calmly on a loose lead. It is essential that your dog be &#8220;comfortably controlled&#8221; by you in a variety of settings (in class, in a room with a few people, in a crowd, walking with you in an unfamiliar environment, etc).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Registration is mandatory:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Note:\u00a0 All therapy dog programs within the TDBC family require that therapy dog teams be registered with a national therapy dog registration association. Registration provides liability insurance when you do volunteer work with your dog.
